What we're doing these days
TUESDAY, JUN 29, 2010 01:35

The NLSC Pilot program was so successful that it was extended until Federal legislation is in place to authorize a permanent program. We are pleased that we have successfully met the objectives of the NLSC’s Pilot Program.

The success really belongs to our members. They confirmed what we expected ... that there are many individuals in this country who are willing to offer their language skills for the good of all. In fact, we exceeded all expectations. So we'd like to say “thank you” to each and every member.

The NLSC is a requirements-driven organization. That is, the languages that we need are driven by the needs and requests of the Federal departments and agencies. We continue to receive inquiries regarding our ability to help from Federal government agencies.

And we are expanding the number of languages we can offer to client agencies. While we accept applications from all U.S. citizens who speak English and at least one other language, we focus on the needs of existing and potential client agencies. Currently, our clients' priorities include Dari, Efik, Farsi, Hausa, Igbo, Khmer/Cambodian, Lao/Laotian, Pashtu, Punjabi, Somali, Tagalog, Uzbek, and Vietnamese.

We also have a busy travel schedule over the next few months, reaching out to our Members in cities across the country. We’ve already met with Members in Philadelphia and Washington, DC, and we'll be in more cities this summer.
